Palocci: Brazil needs economic policies that create jobs

Brasilia, November 15, 2002 (Agencia Brasil ABr) - The coordinator of the goverment-elect's transition team, Antonio Palocci, says that what Brazil needs is action economic policies which create jobs and guarantee sustainable development. Palocci called for carefully prepared import substitution plans and measures to boost the economy. He added that what was working should be preserved and that the new administration would specifically continue to control inflation and maintain the primary surplus.

Palocci said those ideas applied as well to president-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's plans for the social area where Cardoso administration programs would remain in place with corrections to make them more efficient if necessary. (AB)
