Bávaro (Dominican Republic), November 18, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, speaking at the Iberian-American Summit, repeated his criticism of developed nation subsidies and the present architecture of the international financial system.
Cardoso said he continues to call for a more equitable system of world trade and an international financial system less subject to turbulences and crises. That, he said, would result in a more favorable situation for economic growth. "There is no way to escape the facts: protectionism in rich nations and unstable financial flow on international markets are considerable obstacles to growth in developing nations. The two sides of this equation need to be more integrated," concluded Cardoso. (AB)
