Rio, November 19, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Monthly Industrial Employment and Salary Survey (Pimes), released today by the IBGE, shows that in September there was a reduction in the payroll of the industrial sector: -0.3% in comparison with August, -1.7% in comparison with September, 2001, and -2.3% in a cumulative comparison for the year to date.
According to the survey, payroll value fell, in real terms, in half of the areas surveyed. In the industries of Minas Gerais (-3.8%) and Bahia (-3.5%), the declines were most accentuated, although the decline in São Paulo (-1.2%) exercised the principal negative impact during the month. Rio de Janeiro (7.8%), on the other hand, stood out in terms both of magnitude of growth and impact on the formation of the overall rate.
Among the 18 sectors surveyed on a national scale, payroll reductions were observed in half. (DAS)
