Wheat production drops 20%

Rio - Brazilian wheat production in 2005 was 20% less than in 2004, reports the government statistical bureau (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística) (IBGE).

"The lower production levels are due to low market prices, the fact that wheat is a high risk crop and the lack of farmer capital after a weak summer harvest," explains Flavio Pinto Bolliger, of IBGE.
