Brasilia – Service, agriculture, livestock, industry, commerce, and civil construction were the sectors responsible for the record number of jobs created in February. It was the best result since the Ministry of Labor started publishing the General Registry of Employment and Unemployment (CAGED), in 1992.

During the 38 months of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva administration, more than 3.6 million formal jobs were created, of which, 1.3 million in the last 12 months.

February data released this Tuesday (21) show that the return to school influenced job increase in the service sector. 26,226 school jobs were created. Tourism also generated 26,221 jobs in lodging and food areas. "It’s the carnival effect," explained the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho.

Civil construction also reached a record high in comparison with February of last years: 14,993 jobs created. Commerce had more than double the number of jobs than that of February of 2005: 19,258 against 8,647.

Industry had its second best performance this February, with the creation of 23,558 jobs. This index is only inferior to that of February 2004, when 38,086 jobs were created.

The shoes industry interrupted a sequence of three consecutive months of job reduction, through the creation of 2,098 jobs.
