Industrial employment falls in April, after three positive months

Rio, June 18, 2004 (Agência Brasil) - After a cumulative expansion of 1.6% during the three preceding months, industrial employment was down in April. The decline amounted to 0.5% in comparison with March, 0.2% in relation to April, 2003, 0.6% since the beginning of the year, and 1.0% over the past 12 months.

According to the Industrial Employment and Salary Survey for April, released yesterday (17) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the 0.2% decrease in comparison with April, 2003, reflected negative results in eight of the 14 areas and seven of the 18 sectors included in the study.
