Rio, March 24, 2004 (Agência Brasil) - Yesterday (23), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was awarded the "Making a Difference" prize by the newspaper "O Globo," in the "Country" category. In his speech Lula said that his government would not have been able to get where it did, had it not been for the comprehension of millions of Brazilians in 2003, which he considered a "very difficult" year, because of the adjustments that had to be made in economic policy.
The President observed once again that changes do not always take place as quickly as many people would like. He added that he is the most optimistic of Brazilians and that there is no reason for Brazil not to be successful.
Lula affirmed that society should demand actions on the part of the government but, beyond that, should give its all and act with solidarity to help those who lacked the same opportunities during their lifetimes.
