Monterrey 1/12/2004 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Recently it was decided to have an extra Americas Summit between the two scheduled summits, Quebec 2001, and Buenos Aires 2005, so that the many new leaders in the region could meet and get to know each other. The extra, or extraordinary, summit is taking place this week in Monterrey, Mexico. And part of its focus will be different from that of other Americas Summits in that special attention will be given to the problem of poverty. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil specifically asked the other presidents to make time for discussions on poverty combat and the elimination of hunger. (AB)
