Rio, 12/15/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Brazilian Development Bank (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social) (BNDES) has launched the Support Program for Corporate Social Investments (PAIS), which will make the institution more active in the social area. This year, compared to 2002, social area investments by the BNDES are up 11%.
PAIS will provide financing for the implantation or expansion of social programs executed directly by corporations, or those run in partnerships with public institutions. Special attention will be given to programs assisting the handicapped, along with the elderly,children and youths in risk situations, students in public schools, the needy and those who are illiterate.
