Brasília, February 28, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Actress Lucélia Santos, who directed the film "Timor Lorosae - The Massacre that the World Didn't See," emphasized that the idea of showing the film, yesterday (27), to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is to bring him closer to the Brazilian movie universe and make him sensitive to the problems of the people whose work and life revolves around movies in Brazil. She has a project to present the film to students and children, who usually don't have the opportunity to see movies, in the interior of the country.

The actress said that the plan to show the film to the President came from the Minister of Education, Cristovam Buarque, who wants to show Timor Leste's situation to other Ministers in the social area, so that, together, they can determine how to expand Brazilian solidarity to that Asian country. Lucélia Santos also pointed out that the film is very pertinent, since it covers a war that decimated and destroyed a third of the population of Timor Leste. "If there is one thing that should be preached at this moment, it is an absolute 'no' to war, so that people build up the idea of world peace," she emphasized. (DAS)
