Cardoso criticizes international capital markets

São Paulo, 12/9/2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - On Friday, at the end of the XXIII Mercosur Council meeting, president Fernando Henrique Cardoso criticized international capital markets "because of the incredible velocity and liberty they have." He pointed out that Brazil has received support and US$36 billion from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, "an amount which in the past would have calmed markets." While curiously, "Argentina, without such support or funds, is in the same situation as countries with assistance from the IMF." (AB)
