Brasília – The federal government has announced that over the next 60 days it will be strengthening its action plan for dealing with bird flu at the country's two busiest airports, Guarulhos, in São Paulo, and Galeão, in Rio de Janeiro. On Friday (January 13) the Ministry of Agriculture reported that it had purchased new x-ray machines to be used to detect organic matter in passenger baggage. As for cargo shipments, the ministry has special inspection teams.

Brazil will also begin requiring airline passengers to fill out a document detailing their travels so suspected carriers of any disease can be traced.
