Brasília, April 3, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Coordinator of the National STD/Aids Program, Paulo Roberto Teixeira, will reaffirm in Cuba the proposals that he has made to the World Health Organization (WHO) with reference to policies for treating HIV carriers. Teixeira calls for a greater WHO commitment to treatment projects in countries where anti-retrovirus drugs are not distributed to infected individuals.

Teixeira will participate in the II Latin America and Caribbean HIV/Aids and STD Forum, scheduled for April 7-12 in Havana. Among other items, the conference will discuss the importance of access to treatment as a human right due to infected individuals and a governmental obligation, as well as the mobilization of society to control the epidemic.
