Brazil apprehended over 170 tons of marijuana in 2001

Brasília, 1 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The fight against drug traffic in 2001 resulted in apprehensions of 9 tons of cocaine, 172 tons of marijuana and 185 kilos of crack. Some 3,800 marijuana bushes were destroyed. This year, 7.5 tons of cocaine have been apprehended. According to minister of Justice, Paulo de Tarso, the numbers show that the government is expanding its crackdown on organized crime involved in drugs. (AB)
