Economists estimate that, next week, Copom will lower interest rates to 25%

Brasília, July 16, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - A survey conducted by the Central Bank with one hundred consultancy firms, the results of which were promulgated on Monday (14), indicates a 1% reduction in the prime rate (Selic), at the next meeting of the Central Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (Copom). According to their forecasts, the annual rate will be reduced from 26% to 25%, next Wednesday, July 23, the last day of the Committee's monthly meeting. In August the prime rate should come down to 24%, in their opinion. (DAS)
