Brasília, April 24, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - A million literacy students and 25 thousand literacy instructors. This is the goal that Literate Brazil intends to fulfill in the next four months. The program already has around R$ 80 million in resources to execute this plan. Scores of projects from various parts of the country have arrived at the Ministry of Education (MEC) for evaluation, and the first agreements are already being signed.
The goal is to teach three million people to read and write in 2003. This task, which is beginning to be carried out through partnerships, will have R$ 273 million in resources from the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE/MEC) between now and the end of the year. In 2004, 6 million people will be benefitted. In 2005, another 6 million, and 5 million in 2006. (DAS)
