Brasília, 24 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The UN Program for Development has released its Report on Human Development 2000. Brazil moved up from 75th place to 73rd on the Human Development Index. In 1999, Brazil's index was 0.753, and in 2000 it was 0.757. The index measures the quality of life in 173 countries with data on per capita income, access to education and life expectancy.

According to José Carlos Libânio, UNDP representative in Brazil, the index is good for showing the results of government policies, measuring their capacity to create well-being for the population. (AB)
