Brasília, 23 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Fernando Henrique Cardoso declared yesterday that developed nations should do more about climate change, speaking at the ceremony for the signing of the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol. Cardoso did not cite the United States, but said that the matter cannot be dealt with unilaterally.
"Climate change cannot be treated unilaterally or in isolation because it is a global problem that affects all peoples and regions," said Cardoso, adding that the only path to resolving such questions was through acts of solidarity. "The consequences of global warming, especially in less developed nations, makes it imperative to create new standards of development and cooperation," concluded Cardoso. (AB)
