Brasília, 24 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Fernando Henrique Cardoso declared yesterday that the government is not just standing by, watching the world economic crisis, but is busy injecting funds into essential economic activities.

"We must protect our decision-making capacity and economic activities. The turbulence abroad is having an affect here and what we are doing is funding the most needy sectors, mainly small businesses and the poor," said the president, as he announced measures to create jobs and income. (AB)
