Brasília, 22 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - A survey by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research (INEP) shows that 70% of elementary students have classes on the environment. The government wants to make it a mandatory subject. "The survey shows that there is a high level of interest for the subject and a demand for it," says Lucila Viana, who coordinates Enviromental Education.

The subject is taught along with all other subjects. "This happens when, for example, an English or Portuguese teacher brings it into focus," explains Viana. The survey also found that 30% of the students had done projects on the subject. (AB)
