Brasília, 17 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Yesterday president Fernando Henrique Cardoso promised that by next month he will create the Tumucumaque National Park, which is located in Amapá, covering 3.8 million hectares, making it the world's biggest tropical rainforest park. Cardoso called the creation of the park a demonstration of the country's commitment to the environment.
In related news, Cardoso announced the creation of other parks and ecological reserves. Among them is the Mico Preto Ecological Station in Pontal do Paranapanema (São Paulo) which will protect a threatened monkey species (Mico Preto) and remaining Atlantic rainforest in the region. (AB)
