Brasília, 17 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Fernando Henrique Cardoso says he wants to arrive at the Second World Summit on Sustainable Development (Rio+10) with the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol in his pocket. "With the protocol ratified, we will occupy the high moral ground at the meeting. We will show that we practice what we preach," said Cardoso.
Yesterday, during a speech at the launch of the Brazilian Agenda 21, Cardoso called for discussions on the eradication of poverty to be included at the summit, saying it was fundamental if an environmental balance was to be established. "We must link sustainability and poverty, without sidelining other important issues," said the president. (AB)
