Rio de Janeiro, 9 (Agência Brasil - Abr) - Industrial production in May fell 5.1%, compared to April. According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) which makes a monthly survey of industrial activity, the drop was expected following a surprisingly high output in April. Sixteen out of twenty segments surveyed were down.

Compared to May 2001, May 2002 production was down 0.9%, and 0.3% for the year, and 1.2% for the last 12 months. (AB)
