Brasília, 9 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The coordinator of the Brazilian AIDS Program, Paulo Roberto Teixeira, speaking at the Barcelona XIV World AIDS Conference, announced that Brazil is setting up an international cooperation program for control and prevention of HIV in developing nations.

Beginning next year, the program will have a budget of R$2.5 million (US$870,000) for projects dealing with prevention of AIDS and its treatment in African, Asian, Latin American and Caribbean countries. Teixeira explained that Brazil will work jointly with governments and specialized organizations, including the UN, in order to assist poorer countries which do not have the resources or capacity to deal with the problem. The assistance could take the form of technology transfer for the manufacture of medicine, personnel training or donations of medicines. (AB)
