Brasilia, 22 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Brazilian Federal Supreme Court authorized Thursday the DNA testing of the placenta collected from Mexican singer Gloria Trevi. Trevi, who is charged with several crimes involving minors in Mexico, fled to Brazil, where she was arrested. The decision was reached during the judgment of a claim filed by Trevi's attorneys against a Federal Justice ruling that ordered the collection of the placenta and the testing. Gloria Trevi got pregnant while she was being held in the Federal Police jail in Brasilia, awaiting the decision on her extradition to Mexico.

The purpose of the testing is to discover who is the father of Gabriel Angel, the singer's son born this week in Brasilia. The judges defended the notion that the public's interest prevails over the individual interests of Gloria Trevi, who doesn't want the testing done. "The public interest prevailed for the elucidation of the enigma of her pregnancy," said the head of the court, Minister Marco Aurelio. (MW)
