Brasília, 22 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - By the end of this year, the Ministry of Education intends to have trained 2,400 teachers in the use of sign language (Libras) as part of a national program for support of elementary education for the deaf.
A total of 80 deaf teachers have already learned Libras and are now networking throughout the country as part of a partnership effort by the National Institute of the Deaf and the Education of the Deaf Federation.
The Secretariat for Special Education at the Ministry has produced 15,000 CD-Roms containing dictionaries which will be distributed to some 50,000 deaf students enrolled in public elementary schools. (AB)
