Brasília - Among the objectives of the 7th Round of Negotiations to Reach a Consensus on An American Declaration of Indian Peoples Rights (7ª Reunião de Negociações para a Busca de Consenso sobre a Declaração Americana sobre os Direitos dos Povos Indígenas), is the recognition of Indian women rights, says the president of the Indigenous Conclave of South America (Conclave Indígena para a América do Sul), Azelene Kaingan. The discussions take place within the framework of the Organization of American States.

The 7th Round of Negotiations took place this weekend in Brasilia. A motion on Indian women rights has been unanimously approved by the Organization of American States member nations.

It is expected that a final document covering all Indian rights will be ready by 2007. Discussions on the declaration began in 1987.
