Brasília - Last week a Brazilian delegation led by minister of Foreign Relations, Celso Amorim, was in Bhurban, Pasquistan, for the 4ª Ministerial meeting of the G-20. The G-20 (which presently has only 19 members: five from Africa - South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zimbabwe; six from Asia - China, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Pakistan and Thailand; and eight from Latin America - Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Paraguay and Venezuela) was formed in August 2003 by developing nations seeking an end to farm subsidies in rich nations and greater market access for their own agricultural goods.
The G-20 will discuss strategies for agricultural negotiations in the next stage of the Doha Round talks scheduled for a Hong Kong meeting of the World Trade Organization in December.
Minister Amorim will take advantage of being in Pakistan to meet with president Pervez Musharraf and Foreign Minister, Kurshid M. Kusuri, for discussions on bilateral cooperation in energy, ethanol and aviation.
