GDP experiences cumulative growth of 3.4% in first semester

Rio - The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) - the sum of all goods and services generated by the economy - grew 1.4% in the second quarter of this year, in comparison with the first quarter. Compared with the first quarter of 2004, the growth rate amounted to 3.9%.

During the first half of the year, the GDP grew 3.4%, compared with the first half of 2004. During the 12-month period ending in June, 2005, the GDP was up 4.3% in comparison with the same period last year.

These figures were released in a note by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
