Rio - Representative of Latin America's main telephone operators, government regulatory agencies and telecommunications ministries in Brazil, Mexico and Chile are discussing the role of mobile telephone services in the economic and social development of the continent at a conference in Rio de Janeiro which will end today. The conference is sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Investigation Centers and Telecommunications Corporations (AHCIET).
The focus has been on market analysis and perspectives for the future. In the last decade, the Latin American cell phone market grew 200%, characterized by rapid expansion of services and products, the appearance of new players and ever-rising levels of competitivity.
