Brazilian exports rise to over US$58 billion

Brasília - With exports at US$58.466 billion, Brazil's cumulative trade surplus for the year has now reached US$20.990 billion. That has prompted the Central Bank to officially raise its projected year-end surplus estimate from US$30 billion to US$30.1 billion.

Imports for the year are now at US$37.476 billion. The average daily value of exports is running at 39% more than during the same period in 2003, and the average daily value of imports is up 31.7%.

In the third week of August, Brazil had a trade surplus of US$742 million (exports of US$2.056 billion and imports of US$1.314 billion). For the month, the surplus is US$2.461 billion.
