Athens (Greece) - The Brazilian judoca (judo practitioner), Flávio Canto, competing in the 81 kilogram category, won Brazil's second medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, at the Ano Liossia Olympic Center. Brazil's second bronze medal was also Brazilian judo's 12th in the history of the Games. This sport has now pulled even with track and field and sailing as Brazil's biggest winner of Olympic medals.

Canto defeated the Polish judoca, Robert Krawczyk, in the dispute for the bronze with a waza-ari, after trailing early in the fight by a yuko. The Brazilian fought six times to conquer the medal; his only loss was to the Russian, Dmitri Nossov, who ended up with the other bronze medal in the category.
