Brasília, 5/11/2004 (Agência Brasil) - A Youth Development Index, recently created in Brazil to measure quality of life among young people, has been launched worldwide by the UN Organization for Education, Science and Cultura (Unesco). A number of countries will begin using the index as a yardstick to measure the efficiency of government policies aimed at young people.

The Brazilian index uses social indicators based on education, health and income data collected by the government's statistical bureau ( Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística) (IBGE), and the ministries of Education and Health. The index makes it possible to measure and evaluate the impact of government policy on young people.
