Brasília, May 6, 2004 (Agência Brasil) - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will receive Ambassador Alberto Navarro, head of the European Commission Delegation in Brazil, today. The Spaniard will deliver a message written by the Prime Minister of Spain, José Luís Zapatero. "It is a friendly letter in which he expresses his desire to get together with Lula prior to the Guadalajara summit," Navarro disclosed. The Ambassador is leaving his current post next week to take over as Minister of European Affairs in Zapatero's Cabinet.

Navarro foresees a meeting between Lula and the Spanish Premier at the Third Latin America/ Caribbean/European Union Summit scheduled for May 28 in Guadalajara, Mexico. "They should discuss the assignment of peace forces to Haiti," the Ambassador from Europe presumes. "Now that Spanish troops are out of Iraq, we are studying the possibility of contributing to peace forces in other parts of the world, and Haiti is one of the countries that can receive Spanish support," he said, categorizing the invasion of Iraq as "an illegitimate war."
