World Media Summit for Children and Adolescents ends in Rio

23/04/2004 - 14h09

Rio, April 23, 2004 (Agência Brasil) - At the closing ceremony for the Fourth World Media Summit for Children and Adolescents, in Rio de Janeiro, the organizers judged the meeting a success, as much for the quality of the debates as for the quantity of participants, who, according to the general coordinator, Regina de Assis, numbered 700 more than the 2000 who were expected.

For the first time, the program included a Forum devoted exclusively to adolescents. As was the case in the adults' debate, the adolescents also produced a letter containing the conclusions of the encounter. The two express certain common viewpoints, such as the need to ensure greater participation by children and adolescents in the discussion of media programming and content.

South Africa will be the site of the next World Media Summit for Children and Adolescents.
