Brasília, 12/16/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - A Brazilian congressional commission, consisting of four members of parliament, will travel to the United States in January to bring back some 1,500 Brazilians who are in jail or immigration processing centers awaiting extradiction because they entered the US without adequate documents. They will be transported back to Brazil on charter flights paid for by the US.

According to deputy João Magno (PT-MG) the idea was to go before Christmas and get them back to Brazil for the holiday season. "Important votes in congress made that impossible. We had to work for the majority of the country first. But we can assure these people and their families that the problem should be resolved in January," he said. (AB)
