São Paulo, November 6, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Motor vehicle manufacturers in Brazil sold 140,749 vehicles in October, 12.6% more than in September, according to data from the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea). Last month they sold 125,035 vehicles. For Anfavea, the sector's good performance is still the result of the temporary reduction in the Industrial Products Tax (IPI) which took effect at the beginning of August and expires at the end of this month.

The positive results, however, were not enough to reverse the situation of falling sales in 2003. So far this year 1,127,173 vehicles have been sold, 8.1% less than over the same period last year. (DAS)
