Brasília, 11/7/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - In October Brazil exported 4,100 tons of dairy products, compared to 2,700 tons in October 2002, an increase of 52%.
For the year, dairy exports are almost 2% higher than during the same period in 2002 (31,100 tons compared to 30,500 tons). According to Rodrigo Sant'Anna Alvim, head of the dairy farmer confederation (CNPL), the sector should close out the year with exports above the 40,100 tons exported in 2002, which brought in revenue of US$40.2 million.
On the other hand, with regard to dairy products imports, the fact is that the situation is exactly the reverse: they have dropped sharply. Between January and October 2002, Brazil imported almost 180,000 tons of dairy goods. This year, during the same period, imports are at 71,200 tons, down over 60%. (AB)
