Government earmarks R$1 million to combat violence against women

Brasília, 8/28/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The government has announced that it will spend R$1 million to provide special training for 192 police officers in order to enable them to deal with cases of violence against women in the states of Paraná, Tocantins, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. The announcement was made by the head of the secretariat for Women Policies, Emilia Fernandes, who explained that the funds are part of the administration's Program for Prevention, Assistance and Combat of Violence Against Women.
