Brasília, August 27, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Today, the National Monetary Council (CMN) approved a resolution establishing a credit line through the National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES) for electric energy companies. According to the deputy secretary of the Federal Treasury, Tarcísio Godoy, these funds are for the purpose of protecting these firms from losses, as a result of the postponement of electricity rate readjustments until April, 2004. The amount of money available through this credit line can attain R$ 1.9 billion. (DAS)
