Rio, 8/4/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Mauren Maggi, one of Brazil's best hopes for a medal in the Pan American Games which began this weekend in the Dominican Republic, has dropped out of the competition after she tested positive for a prohibited drug. According to Maggi, she used a depilatory substance which contained the drug. Maggi participates in the long jump.

Dr. Eduardo de Rose, who is a Brazilian representative on the Pan American Games Anti-Doping Committee, refused to comment on the case. (AB)
