Brasília, 12/10/2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Representatives of 60 ethnic groups in the Americas are meeting in Brasilia in what is being called the "Pre-Biennal," for the 1st Americas Indigenous Peoples Biennal scheduled for next year. The Pre-Biennal is a part of the Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Forum and is discussing autonomy and respect for native Americans, demarcation of Indian lands, statutes and charters, the construction of dams and highways inside reservations and the preservation of their culture. The meeting will draw up a document that will be delivered to president-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. (AB)
