New York, 12/10/2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Speaking to Brazilian journalists, president Fernando Hemrique Cardoso declared that he never understood the opposition by the PT during his 8 years in office. "They were against everything. They brought lawsuits without any reason and tried to impeach me numerous times. They tried to remove me from office right after I won the election," he said.

Cardoso declared that he hoped his party, the PSDB, now in the opposition, will not act the same way, but will be serious. "We need an opposition that does more than just criticize. We need someone to present alternatives," he concluded. (AB)
