New York, 12/10/2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Fernando Henrique Cardoso says that the solution for the problem of inflation in Brazil is more political than economical. And he added it does not depend on his government, but on the next. Cardoso said the transition team will have to work harder to convince markets that they can keep it under control.
Cardoso blamed petroleum prices and the rise of the dollar for the inflation spike. Asked if the announcement of the Lula cabinet would calm the markets, Cardoso replied that the markets are always impatient. (AB)
