Rio, 12/10/2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) – The Brazilian Development Bank (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social) (BNDES) is launching a guide to the Clean Development Mechanism as established in the Kyoto Protocol and the Marrakech Agreements. The bank is also beginning a public discussion of the issue with the objective of assisting investors in identifying projects which are eligible; that is, projects which effectively reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Under the terms of the Kyoto Protocol, industrialized nations must reduce their emissions to 5% below 1990 levels between 2008 and 2012. The Marrakech Agreements set norms for the use of the Clean Development Mechanism. (AB)
