Brasília, November 29, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Fernando Henrique Cardoso affirmed yesterday (28) that he hopes that the administration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has the "good sense" to continue the social programs implemented during his two terms of office. Speaking at the Order of Education Merit awards ceremony, the president disclosed that his administration is working to unify the register of needy families in Brazil, in order to increase the benefits distributed through the various programs that form the network of social protection. "It will be possible to consolidate the array of government social programs, if the next administration has the good sense to carry them forward - as I hope it has. And it will thus become apparent that the efficiency can be increased," he emphasized. (DAS)
