Brasília – The communications regulatory agency, Anatel, reports that in July there were over 267,200 new subscribers to cable television services, bringing the number of households with the service to 14.8 million. During the year between July 2011 and July 2012, an additional 3.5 million subscribers joined the service, which grew over 30% during the period.
The government statistical bureau (“IBGE”) says each Brazilian household has an average of 3.3 persons. Thus, some 49 million Brazilians now have cable TV, about one quarter of the population.
The Southeast region is where there is the highest percentage of households with cable TV – 35.5%.
