Brasília - The president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, today (11), from the University of Brasília (UnB) in the capital of Brazil.

In her address, Bachelet guaranteed that her country's government will mend the harm suffered by all the victims of violence committed during the dictatorial period. "The government of Chile will never again, for whatever reason, condone a violation of people's rights. The government of Chile will never again have any other priority than its citizens. That is the way we understand human rights, and that is the way I understand citizen politics," she affirmed.

The president of the UnB, Timothy Martin Mulholland, noted that the university was founded "on the principles of democracy and human rights," making it an honor to pay homage to the president of Chile. "We identify with her career, with her work, and with her marvelous project for Chile's development," he remarked.

Bachelet was received in the morning by president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. They conversed about the Haitian reconstruction mission, measures to combat hunger, and South American integration, according to the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
