In Geneva, minister will discuss cases of racism in Brazil

Brasília - The limits between, on the one hand, the right to free speech and opinion, and on the other, disrespect for human rights and the circulation of biased information over the internet are the theme of an encounter this week in Geneva, Switzerland. One of the participants is minister Matilde Ribeiro, head of the Special Secretariat of Policies to Promote Racial Equality (Seppir).

The participants in the High-Level Seminar on Racism over the Internet and International Norms include representatives of United Nations member-states and international non-governmental organizations.. Minister Ribeiro will address the seminar today (17) on cases of racism spread over the worldwide computer web in Brazil. Luiz Fernando Martins da Silva, a Seppir ombudsman, is also scheduled to make a presentation, on steps the country has taken to combat racism over the internet.

Tomorrow (18), Ribeiro will meet in Paris with the head of the International Francophone Organization, Lazare Ki-Zerbo, to converse about the II Conference of Intellectuals from Africa and the African Diaspora, which will be held in May in Salvador, Bahia.
