Brasília, 8 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Justice, Miguel Reale Júnior, is going to present on May 28 new projects for the criminal and penitentiary systems. One is a rehabilitation program (PAE) characterized by public participation which will reduce the rejection of former inmates, "Rejection by society is what results in recidivism," said the minister.

The Ministry will also embark on a building program of semi-open and temporary prisons in all Brazilian states. Using inmate labor (for 30% of the construction), each will cost R$1 million (US$410,000).

Reale Junior announced that other programs will be forthcoming (on non-custodial sentencing and control of media content) and that an international agreement to combat organized crime is in the final stages. (AB)
